Arif sb, could you be more specific please? Once the suggestion is explicit, then others can give their views as well.

If certain types of topics get no reply after the initial post, then the contributor(s) can take a hint that this topic is not interesting to the majority of the readers.

Regards.

I am not against this but its not desirable. I am a birds lover & some time i share my birds with friends. But for that purpose i have joined parrot forum, United peafowl association & birds planet.I have observed that people have different taste even among birds. Some people only like parrots, some only like peacocks & some only go for pheasant. For cars i have joined Pak wheels. Its because when you join a specific forum you come togather with the relavant hobby lovers.I have even seen forums only limited to specific breed of dogs. One may like German shepard dog but not others.I think you can under stand my point of view.

Look at the top of the page, it is specific to gardening and should remain confined to subjects related to gardening and gardening only.
It has no place for mountaineering, Golf, fishing or other hobbies.
I personally feel that it is time we make it a web site with various forums just like the Garden web. Com, with some modifications.

On every specific forum there is always "off topic' section where members can share information not related to main mother forum.I am member of Music forums,Guns, hunting, survival and Birds forums and for gardening i open this forum.Sometimes members from this forum cant be found on other forums but can share information related to other topics.I came to this forum via an Off topic discussion on gardening on a Gun forum.
So nothing harm in having a 'gup shup' or 'off topic' :) Those dont having interest never open the un wanted threads.

Sometimes off topic talks here do hide the important updates of the active topics , i believe off topic talks should be limited to activites related to gardening interests only like somebody shared Dubai Garden which is a good info... otherwise if some event is to be shared that should also be acceptable like Eid Greetings or some Flower Show. Sharing pets and farming talks is also within the interest of this forum but ..........Anything completely out of Gardening can be shared on social forums FB etc.

IMHO, we are getting too sensitive to an issue which really is a non-issue.

Though I feel the action taken by mikhurram of leaving the forum is a bit too harsh and have already requested him to reconsider his decision in the thread which has now been locked, however, I am bound to think that what forced a positive contributer like Imran Khurram to take such an extreme step and IMHO, this should be a concern for all members of Gardening Pakistan who want to see this forum prospering. Would Gardening Pakistan like to loose a member like mikhurram who has contributed so much on this forum just because he posted a thread on mountaineering in the Non Gardening Section of Gardening Pakistan?

I am a member of many forums concerning hunting, guns, gardening, fishing and few other subjects. Like Ka_Khan, I also came to know about Gardening Pakistan from a hunting / fishing forum in an off topic thread posted by a member and subsequently joined it. No body on that forum said that growing roses or bulbs has got nothing to do with fishing, hunting, rifle, shotguns, fishing rod, reels (which was the main discussion on that forum) because it was posted in an off-topic section which was meant for topics other than hunting, fishing and guns.

IMHO, till the time such topics are posted in NON GARDENING TALK, there is no problem. Interested members can read and participate in those threads and those not interested should just ignore them. If a thread is ignored, the concerned member with automatically get the massage that such threads are not welcomed on this forum. However, if someone tries to discuss hunting, fishing, golf, mountaineering, cooking, cars, computer etc etc within the sections that are related to gardening than the members have full right to object to it and advise the concerned member (politely, while staying within norms of decency and mutual respect) that this is not a place for this discussion.

Laying a restriction that off-topic discussions should be related to gardening in some manner or may only include things like eid greetings etc is also not justified in my view. Off topic is off-topic, ie, anything other than gardening.

Bottom line is that unless the intension is to restrict this forum to few selected members only, we have to be more accomodative to other member's views. I would humbly request all to tolerate other persons views. Actions like locking a particular thread do not solve the issue rather create more problems in long run.

Best regards

I completely agree to farhan. Lets keep the differences aside and focus on gardening. After all nobody did any offense to any one. It is just expression of views and no strict words so far. Let's portray a positive image to millions of users visiting this forum from all around the world. Our forum is probably the most active forum on gardening on an international level :)

BTW: I have seen pakwheels forum is frequently accessed through Tapatalk on smart phones. I remember some one requested it previously. Lets see if i can make it for our forum too.
